Consistency beats intensity
Three strong posts a week beat daily fluff you cannot maintain. Instagram and your audience both learn from your reliability. Burst posting followed by silence usually underperforms a calmer cadence held for a full quarter.
For most SMEs, a realistic baseline is three to five feed pieces per week, mixing reels and image posts, plus Stories only if someone can sustain them without stealing time from fulfilment.
Fix a monthly mix, then stick to the calendar. Frequency is a system choice, not a motivational mood.
Recommended starting cadences by stage
Starting out (low bandwidth): 3 posts/week total—for example 1 reel + 2 posts, or 2 reels + 1 post. Protect quality and approval time.
Steady SME ops: 4–5 pieces/week—commonly 2–3 reels and 2 posts. This is enough for discovery without turning the owner into a full-time creator.
Growth push with assets ready: up to 1 reel/day only if review quality stays high and catalog inputs are strong. If quality slips, drop volume before you drop standards.
Translate to monthly mixes Govyrl-style operators already use: 5 reels / 15 posts, 8 reels / 8 posts, or 10 reels / 0 posts depending on whether you need discovery, education, or a launch sprint.
How to choose your mix without guessing
Ask three questions: How many reviewable assets can we produce in one batch? How many approvals can a founder or manager give per week? Which format historically drives inquiries for us—reels, posts, or both?
If you are unknown locally, bias toward reels for discovery. If people find you but do not understand the offer, bias toward explanatory posts. If both are weak, fix creative quality before adding frequency.
Seasonality matters in India. Festival months may justify temporary reel increases for offers; quiet operational months may favor educational posts that keep the account warm with less kitchen or warehouse disruption.
Signs your frequency is wrong
Too high: captions get sloppy, claims slip through, the team dreads content day, and engagement per post falls because posts feel repetitive or thin.
Too low: multi-week gaps, declining reach on return, followers forgetting what you sell, and over-reliance on paid boosts to restart momentum.
Wrong mix: lots of reach from reels but no inquiries, or thoughtful posts with no discovery. Adjust format share before you simply “post more.”
A sustainable operating rhythm
Batch weekly or fortnightly. Generate or shoot in one block, approve in a second block, schedule into fixed slots, then spend remaining time on replies and community—where conversion often actually happens.
Review metrics every two to four weeks. Change one variable at a time: frequency, mix, or timing. Changing all three at once teaches you nothing.
Remember the goal: a cadence the business can keep when it is busy. Sustainable frequency is a growth advantage disguised as restraint.
